Statement on the recent riots

Ashiana expresses profound concern regarding the recent riots incited by racism and Islamophobia across the UK. These disturbances have caused significant disruption, property damage and distress within our local communities.

We firmly believe that every individual has the right to live in a safe environment, free from fear and harm. Our service users, who represent some of the most vulnerable minoritised communities in the UK, often face multiple barriers to accessing safety, and remain affected by issues including domestic abuse, sexual violence and modern slavery.

We advise our clients, staff and the broader community to remain vigilant and exercise caution during this period. We encourage necessary adjustments to travel and safety practices to mitigate potential risks. Ashiana is actively liaising with partner organisations to safeguard and support our community during these challenging times.

We condemn the exploitation of the tragic murders in Southport to further provoke racial abuse and scapegoating. Such actions undermine the gravity of the initial incident and distract from our collective efforts to combat the epidemic of violence against women and girls.
